The survival of the program depends on parents volunteering to actively help manage, organize, and assist with the wide range of program tasks throughout the entire year.
Additionally, the Sailing Committee is in need of parent volunteers to help with June pre-season set-up and fundraising events this summer.
Please reach out to Mark Patek, John Fulghum, or Eric Kirton if interested in learning more.
Updated 1/29/26
NSP provides sailing instruction for beginners through advanced racing, to students from age 8 and up. NSP’s sailboat fleet of Optimist, 420 dinghies, RS FEVAs and Rhodes 19 keelboats is well suited to meet the needs of a range of sailing skills and interests. Along with sailing, we work to develop other important, life-long skills such as friendship and teamwork.
The majority of our experienced instructor team have been a part of the program since they were little and are dedicated to creating a safe and fun learning environment for the students.
Note: All students must pass a swim test, in the ocean, on the first day of class.
Thanks to the generous support of the donors to The Friends of Nahant Sailing Inc., the 501c(3) non profit that supports the Nahant Sailing Program
NSP HAS BEEN ABLE TO PROCURE:
Three RS FEVA sailboats ( a new class of boats to bridge Optis and 420s)
- a new RIB inflatable
- a new Rhodes 19 trailer
- new outboard for one of the coach boats
- 2 race-ready 420s
- 3 Rhodes 19 (to provide more safety - among other things - for our beginners)
- 1 Rhodes 19 trailer
- 15 optimists
- 8 opti dollies
- 2 new motor boats with trailers to enhance the reliability, utility, and safety of the fleet
- a large rack to store boats at the wharf
- 3 sets of new sails for the 420's so our racers can be competitive
The cost for these expensive and necessary items is not covered by the registration fees or Town of Nahant's contribution. Only through the dedication of volunteers, generous donors and support of these NSP/FNS fund raisers is NSP able to provide a comprehensive sailing program as such a reasonable price. So thanks again for all the support.
